Guitar Boot Camp 2012!

I am very excited to announce the dates for the 7th year of Guitar Boot Camp! The program will take place in the music facilities at the Pingree School in Hamilton. We have two sessions this time around:

Students Finishing 6th through 8th grade: July 9 – July 13 + Saturday, July 14 performance

Students Finishing 9th through 12th grade: July 16 – July 20 + Saturday, July 21 performance

Each session will focus on the following:

Morning Warm-up
Technique Building Exercises
Fretboard Knowledge and Theory
Songwriting
How to get the most out of your guitar, amps, and effects pedals

In addition to the daily guitar workouts listed above, each class will be broken up into songwriting groups. Each piece (or pieces) the group writes will be performed on the last day of the session. The students will also work in Pingree’s digital recording lab and learn to record, edit, and mix the song they write. Each student will bring home a CD at the end of the week with all of the in-class practice examples as well as the song(s) written in class.

Lunch will be provided by the Pingree School Dining Services. In addition, all equipment and materials for the class will be provided – all you need is your guitar!

Class will take place from 9:30 to 3:30 each day. The class is $375 and includes all meals and materials (there is a $25 discount if you sign-up before April 1^st!). If you are in need of transportation to or from the camp, I will be carpooling from my studio and the Georgetown Park and Ride for no additional fee (I am happy to make addition stops if they are on our route to school).

Guitar Clinics on Saturday, March 17th!

This Saturday, March 17th, I will be presenting two guitar clinics at the Indian Hill Music Guitar Festival in Littleton, MA. The festival is free and open to the public. There will be a Rock Guitar Technique clinic at 2:15 and then a presentation on 7 and 8 string guitars at 4:30. For directions and to see the full schedule of performances and clinics, go to:

Free Guitar Clinic on Wednesday, February 29th at 6:30pm

On Wednesday, February 29th, I will be performing a free clinic at the Langley Adams Library in Groveland. The clinic will start at 6:30 and run until 7:30. I will play some of the material from my new disc, Guitar Boot Camp, along with some tunes from my album Basement Tapes. I will answer questions, talk about practicing, the equipment I use, etc. There will also be a Morley t-shirt raffle. 50% of all cd sales from the evening will go to Music Drives Us, and anyone that purchases both Guitar Boot Camp and Basement Tapes will receive a free cd from my old prog-rock band, Storms Approach. I am very excited about this event, and I hope you can join me!

Toys for Tots 2011!

I want to thank all 51 performers that played in the December 10th, 2011 Toys for Tots Concert. We had an amazing turnout and collected around 300 toys!! Thank you to all of my students for their dedication to this show! Let’s do it again next year! Thank you to SSgt. I am very excited to announce that my students will be performing at the Toys for Tots benefit concert at the NPingree School in Hamilton! The show will take place on Saturday, December 10th at 7:00pm. This event will be open to the public and will feature groups of students playing renditions of holiday classics. Admission is a new, unwrapped toy. SSgt. Eric Ferreira of the United States Marines will be present to collect the toys. I hope to see you there!

Berklee Guitar Sessions!

Today I spent the afternoon filling in for Jon Finn at Berklee College of Music’s Summer Guitar Sessions. I was in several of his ensembles while attended Berklee, so to be leading one of his classes was surreal! A huge thanks to Jon, Dave Newsam, and all of the students in the class for a fun afternoon. You all RULE!!!

Kangaralien and Rush Tribute Show!

Kangaralien and Rush Tribute Band Mechanical Music will be playing at the Newbury Town Library in Byfield to help raise money for the library.
